Instructor Profiles

Al McKenzie

Al has 30 years experience with companies engaged in explosives manufacturing, processing, and testing. Prior to starting Process Safety Associates in 1998 he managed the health and safety program at United Technologies/Chemical Systems Division in San Jose, California for ten years. Before that he spent fifteen years at Thiokol Corporation and Morton Thiokol, Inc., where he was responsible for providing hazard analysis and risk assessment services for their worldwide chemical and explosives manufacturing operations. A graduate of the University of Maryland, he is a professional member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), and a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the System Safety Society.

Steven R. Trammell

Steve has over 20 years of experience in development and integration of risk management programs for major operations in the petrochemical, defense and electronics industries. He specializes in system hazard assessment development and has authored numerous papers on application of risk assessment in industry. Steve has managed multiple engineering support organizations for operations around the globe, which were responsible for establishing EHS equipment criteria, facilitating risk assessments, coordinating environmental due diligence activities and assisting start-up production sites in regulatory compliance. He is active in the working groups for International Fire and Building Code development and the National Fire Protection Association and is an active member of the System Safety Society, Society of Fire Protection Engineers, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the Semiconductor Environmental Safety and Health Association. He has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas and a MBA, and is a Certified Safety Professional and a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager.

Brett Jay Davis, PE

Brett has over 17 years experience in process risk management, with primary responsibilities for operational safety and environmental compliance. He has worked in the natural gas and semiconductor industries, and also spent several years as a chemical process regulator for the City of Austin Fire Department. His experience includes treatment of air emissions and waste water discharges, water and energy conservation, alternative code compliance, and process and fire risk assessments. Brett has served as chair of the Travis County Local Emergency Planning Committee since 1995 and as an officer of the Air & Waste Management Association Central Texas Chapter since 1998. He also recently founded and was elected Chair of the SESHA Compound Semiconductor EHS Forum. Brett has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas and an M.S. in Hazardous Waste Management from National Technological University. He has been a registered professional engineer in Texas since 1991.
